Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 August 2026
Deficit (“the app”, “we”) is a calorie and macro tracker for iOS. This policy explains what the app collects and how it is used. We built Deficit to keep your data on your device wherever possible.
What we collect
Deficit stores the entries you create — meals, calorie and macro estimates, and daily totals — so you can see your history and streaks. Where you enable it, the app reads calories burned and related metrics from Apple Health. This information stays on your device and in your private iCloud, and is not sold or shared with advertisers.
Meal photo scanning
When you scan a meal, the photo you take is sent to our AI processing provider solely to estimate the food, its calories and macros. Photos are used only to generate that estimate and are not used to build a profile of you.
Apple Health
If you grant access, Deficit reads active/resting energy and similar metrics from Apple Health to calculate your deficit. The app does not write to Health without your action, and you can revoke access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health.
Analytics & diagnostics
We may use privacy-respecting, aggregated diagnostics to understand crashes and improve reliability. These do not identify you personally.
Data deletion
You can delete individual entries in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes its on-device data. To request deletion of any data associated with your use, contact us at the address below.
Children
Deficit is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
